Ingredients:
Ginger-Turmeric Tonic
1 (2-inch) knob fresh turmeric, peeled and grated, or 2 teaspoons ground turmeric powder
1 (2-inch) knob ginger, peeled and grated
3 cardamom pods, ground
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
4 cupsfiltered water
1/4 cupfreshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 1 lemon)
2 tablespoonshoney
Ginger-Turmeric Tonic Cocktail
1 1/2 ouncesspiced rum or rum alternative (such as Lyres Dark Cane Spirit)
3 ouncesginger-turmeric tonic (see recipe above)
1/4 ouncefreshly squeezed lemon juice
Lemon peel and fresh ginger, for garnish

Directions:

Make the tonic: Combine grated turmeric, ginger, ground cardamom, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 2 cups water in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes or until fragrant. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a lidded heatproof container.
In a separate container, whisk together honey and lemon juice. Add to the turmeric mixture along with 2 more cups of water. Refrigerate until chilled.
Serve over ice or in the cocktail preparation below, and enjoy in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously until chilled.
Strain into a new glass with fresh ice and garnish with a fresh piece of ginger and lemon zest. Enjoy!
